A centre for art and architecture, with an ambition to examine contemporary art as a political tool – and arrange encounters between the disciplines. One example is the spring exhibition ”Expanded books”, where 19 artists were interpreting and embodying the term ”artist book” – among many other events, happenings, festivals and performance acts that take place in this former paint factory. Färgfabriken is located in Liljeholmen, just outside the city centre.

A work of art in itself, designed by the architect Peter Celsing in 1974. With three galleries embracing all art genres; dance and drama staged in two theaters; newspapers from around the world and a restaurant that incorporates a stage for readings by poets and writers. Among notable current exhibitions, a photo-narrative chronicling the life of a family by the Finnish Vesa Aaltonen, the 17th century realist painter Albert Eckhout, and an exhibition of Swedish fashion sketches spanning the last 50 years.

Art hall located in a 50’s warehouse, in an industrial area quite a distance from the city centre. Five to six often groundbreaking exhibitions per year, from Sweden or abroad. The scary couture installations by Swede Lars Nilsson and the twisted cartoon sculptures by American Paul McCarthy are among the high points of this art establishment’s history. The collections consist of 450 pieces, most of them three-dimensional.

MODERNA MUSEET
Skeppsholmen
tel: +46 8 519 552 00
www.modernamuseet.se
The Modern Museum is now finally back in its original building which had to be closed due to Mildew. With generous opening hours there is really no excuse not to visit. See gems like Picasso’s Spring, Salvador Dali’s The Enigma of William Tell or Matisse’s Moroccan Landscape. Temporary exhibitions are running all the time and an added perk is good café and restaurant on site.
