Sveavägen 73  Widely praised, clean-lined 20’s building by Gunnar Asplund (1885-1940), the architect who introduced functionalism to Sweden.  


Hallwylska Museet

Gloomy, haunted palace with baroque interior by mad Countess von Hallwyl, who collected everything from tooth brushes to false mummys and Steinway pianos. For more info, phone 51 95 55 99.  


Hammarby sjöstad

An unfinished architectural symphony. A new part of Stockholm takes shape at the Hammarby harbor, 8000 apartments to be finished in 2010. Bus 46 from Slussen to Sofia, jump off at the last stop. 


Moderna Museet at Skeppsholmen

The museum remake by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo 1995-98 is a lovely sight. Within walking distance from Kungsträdgården.


Skogskyrkogården

Gunnar Asplund, again. The father of functionalism with colleague Sigurd Lewerentz created this cemetary landscape (1919-1940), inscribed on the World Heritage list in 1994. The chapel close to the entrance shows decorations by great Swedish artists from the early 20th century, among them Sven X:et Erixson and Bror Hjort. T-Skogskyrkogården.
