Ground level or not, when your table has a panoramic view of Birger Jarlsgatan just a stone’s throw from Stureplan, it’s easy to feel like a sophisticate. Especially when the restaurant bills itself as serving food from the four corners of the globe. “We especially like to cook French, Asian and Caribbean food,” they say. No complaints about their results with those cuisines.

ERIKS GONDOLEN
Stadsgården 6

A zeppelin of a restaurant, towering high above the ground at Katarinahissen - an attraction that has taken tourists up and down the hill at Slussen since 1883. At master chef Erik Lallerstedts restaurant, all tables have a sea view, the interior has a marine touch and the kitchen could be described as Swedish- Mediterranean luxury, with a menu boasting steak tartar, duck terrine, and carpaccio of calf. The result, though, is generally uneven. A more consistent level of quality is maintained in the wine bar, where two of Sweden’s most renowned sommeliers, Andreas Larsson and Björnstierne Antonson, reign.

RESTAURANGEN
Oxtorgsgatan 14
tel: 08-22 09 52
Famous restaurateur Melker Andersson’s second restaurant and bar venture after Fredsgatan 12, with a city-smart atmosphere and an intelligent menu concept. Andersson’s food math means that the guest chooses between three, five and seven flavors where three equals a main dish, five is a starter plus main course and seven a three course menu. Mention the spice ’cumin’ at Restaurangen and you may get a composition made from lamb, quesadilla and goat’s cheese – with a specially selected wine, if you wish.

A gastronomic monument that has experienced something of revival recently and attracts businesspeople, pop journalists and photo models. Not that it has lost touch with its history – the specialty of the house is still sole with truffle hollandaise sauce. Stingingly expensive but delicious, and served with old-school reverence. Try the roasted entrecote, the best value in town in its class – brought to the table on a silver serving cart.
