Wine Cellar

The wine cellar of Nordic Light takes you on a trip through one of Europe's largest collections of American wine.

We have focused on American wines because that’s where you'll find the modern pioneers of wine growing. By means of experiment, modernism and humour, American growers find new paths through the world of wine. Like us, they have a vision of the good life, an openminded and inspiring invitation to novel experiences.

We see the wine experience as the result of a meeting between all senses. Humans can perceive five tastes and thousands of aromas, and our enjoyment of wine is also enhanced by sight and feel. The more senses that are involved and activated when meeting the wine, the bigger the experience.

Ideologically, we’re part of American Tim Hannis’ rebellion against snobbery, elitism and arrogance in the wine world. We feel that food and wine are for enjoying, and testing wines should be a fun experience. Even in the world of wine, most things are permitted, provided there’s a gleam in your eye. In the cellar of Nordic Light, you will find about 150 different American wineyards represented. American guests are often surprised to discover wines they couldn’t find at home.

Apart from famous regions such as Napa and Sonoma in California, we've found Contra Costa, where old vineyards grow European wine on sandy soil, and the latest AVA (American Viticultural Area) certified vineyards of Oregon and Washington State. We’re also keeping an eye on San Louis Obispo Country, the “Provence”of California, of which we expect a great future in wine growing.
