Nordic Light Hotel’s new light installation, Light Space, opens on 6 November. Our guest partner is the Belgian design company Dark, headed by CEO Marnick Smessaert. The main attraction in the installation is Spacewalker, Dark’s newly-launched luminous space alien, which descends on the hotel by lowering itself from holes in the ceiling.
Nordic Light Hotel's interior changes several times a year to create a vibrant hotel with new experiences for visitors and guests. Spacewalker, designed by German designer Constantin Wortmann, was launched last week down at Interieur 2008 in Kortriijk, Belgium, and is now on show for the first time in Sweden. Spacewalker is 1.40 m tall, and the designer has taken his inspiration from the classic extraterrestrial of the 1950s, with its large head and small body, faintly luminous, off to explore new galaxies.
- “Dark is currently considered to be one of the most innovative light-producing companies in Europe, and we’re really pleased that they agreed to get on board and create Light Space in partnership with us. He really is a charming space alien,” says Jan Söder, head designer at Nordic Hotels.
The space and weightlessness experience will be intensified by video installations in the lobby, produced in partnership with Vidiots, some of Stockholm at the moment most interesting video artists. As one part of the installtion visitors will also experience the new Union Bench designed by Jangir Maddadi.
