Diana Orving, one of Sweden’s most prominent young design talents, has created a textile installation at the Nordic Light Hotel in Stockholm. Using the improvisation-based approach from her clothing design, Diana will create a collection of textile rooms in the hotel’s lobby. The installation is open to the public from August 14 and will remain at the Nordic Light Hotel until the end of October.Diana Orving was asked to create an installation for the Nordic Light Hotel back in the spring. The work became integrated into her work on her standard collection and the result is an installation and a collection that have inspired each other. “Spaces”, the name of both the collection and the installation, is now having its première at the Nordic Light Hotel.“Staying at a hotel is about moving into a room, quickly making it your own, and then passing it on to someone else. The combination of intimacy and formality that you experience at a hotel interested me and was the inspiration behind my work. With my textile rooms and curtains, the most formal part of the hotel, the lobby, allows visitors to withdraw and screen themselves off in both senses of the word,” says fashion designer Diana Orving.Hand-painted fabrics in various textures and levels of transparency, such as cotton fabric, silk, tulle and chiffon, have been cut into hundreds of pieces, each with their own unique shape and format, and then linked together to form a collection of hanging rooms and spaces.Diana Orving has become particularly well-known for her drapings, cuttings and silhouettes in subdued colour ranges, as well as for her unusual displays. Her latest collection was displayed at Elverket in the form of a play starring four actors. The installation will première in conjunction with the fashion show at the Nordic Light Hotel on 13 August 2008, after which the installation will be open to the public.
