In June, Choice Hotels Scandinavia acquired the well-known Stockholm hotels Nordic Light Hotel and Nordic Sea Hotel, as well as the Nordic brand. Yesterday Tobias Ekman was appointed the new General Manager with overall responsibility for the hotels’ operations. Tobias Ekman was most recently employed as General Manager at Stockholm’s largest hotel, Clarion Hotel Sign. He will be taking up his post in September.
“We’re pleased that Tobias was willing to move a few hundred metres down the road and become the new manager at Nordic Hotels. Tobias has been involved in establishing Clarion Hotel Sign as one of the prides of Stockholm. He will now work with developing the uniqueness of the Nordic hotels and the Nordic brand,” says Torgeir Silseth, CEO of Choice Hotels Scandinavia.
Tobias Ekman has been working for Choice Hotels for the past five years, most recently as General Manager at Clarion Hotel Sign, and prior to that as Sales Manager at Clarion Hotel Stockholm. Tobias Ekman trained in Hotel Management in Switzerland, and has previously worked at Berns and Grand Hôtel Stockholm.
“I began my career in the hotel industry twenty years ago, carrying bags at Ejnar Söder’s Star Hotel in Sollentuna. So it’s very exciting to be able to take up the reigns after Ejnar here at Nordic Light Hotel and Nordic Sea Hotel. I want to bring with me the energy and enthusiasm that I have experienced during my years at Choice,” says Tobias Ekman, Hotel Manager.
Nordic Light Hotel and Nordic Sea Hotel have a combined total of 542 rooms in central Stockholm. Nordic Sea Hotel also houses the successful ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM. Nordic Light Hotel is a member of Design Hotels. The purchase of Nordic makes Choice Hotels the largest hotel chain in Stockholm and the chain is continuing to invest in the capital region. Last week, a contract was signed for the construction of the terminal hotel Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport, with 400 new rooms.
