Light is luxury - light is life

In summer we savor it around the clock and in winter we never quite seem to catch the daylight. These two extremes have influenced our lighting concept at Nordic Light Hotel. The light is designed to adapt to the seasons of the year. Using natural daylight to the full when it’s around and letting artificial lighting create the right mood when it’s not.The core design element of Nordic Light Hotel is the light, and the inspiration is the northern lights. The concept has been created by renowned light architect Kai Piippo in cooperation with the hotel’s designers, Lars Pihl and Jan Söder. Throughout Nordic Light Hotel the interplay of lights is used to design the atmosphere.

We take lighting seriously. We have our own light lab and one staff member is devoted to trimming the lights and working the mood. The hotel is also the stage for an overall theme change five times a year – when light becomes a valuable tool for achieving variation and change over time.

The hotel’s dedicated use of lighting as a design tool has been awarded one of the most prestigious lighting awards available. In 2002, we won the European Light Trophy at ELEC in Paris.

Since that date the light concept has been developed further, especially in
some of the hotel rooms. Our designers always wanted to give guests the
possibility to influence the design of their hotel room. Visions became reality when the light bed was developed. LED technology in our Mood rooms allows our guests to freely blend colours. Calming blue, reviving green, adrenaline pumping red or a cocktail of colors mixed to perfection.
