SNOOPY 60 YEARS - celebrated with a design-installation, charity auction and anti-bullying campaign

Charles M. Schulz' Snoopy (Peanuts) turns sixty this year - an anniversary that is being celebrated all over the world! In Sweden this fall there will be a number of anniversary activities orchestrated by Plus Licens, Snoopy's agent in the Nordic countries. Snoopy and his alter-ego Joe Cool will move in to Nordic Light Hotel in the form of a design-installation produced by Rekostylisterna. On October 13th, 15 personal interpretations of Joe Cool will be auctioned out in support of Friends.

The series was first published in the US in 1950 and has over the years developed into one of comic-history's biggest success stories. Snoopy has a timeless lifeforce and has, despite the fact that new production of the series ended in 2000, grown more popular in the last decade.

"Being Joe Cool"  11 August  -  31 October at Nordic light hotel

The design-installation "Being Joe Cool" is a project by Rekostylisterna and takes place at Nordic Light Hotel from August 11th to October 31st. The focus is on Joe Cool, one of Snoopy's alter-egos. In the hotel lobby, visitors are invited to take a look inside his doghouse and take part in his thoughts, lifestyle and attitude. The entire seventh floor is a tribute to Snoopy. In the corridor, one wanders through small scenes from Snoopy's life and room 710 has been converted into the "Snoopy-suite".

- "It feels great to celebrate Snoopy through this design project" says Sanna Gebeyehu of Rekostylisterna. "We want to show what lies beneath the surface of Joe Cool, what goes on inside his head, what has shaped him and how his everyday looks. Open up and see what's actually inside that doghouse! But also pose the question: what is cool - the surface or the content? Maybe both?”

As part of the design concept, there will even be an exhibition of Swedish creators, artists and designers' own personal interpretations of Joe Cool in the form of styled statues. The statues will be auctioned out by Bukowskis on October 13th in support of anti-bullying organization Friends.

Anti-bullying campaign

Also part of the Anniversary activities this year is a Snoopy Loves Friends campaign, in co-operation with Snoopy-licensees such as Cederroths and Euromic. A special Snoopy Loves Friends logo will be seen on products, signs and marketing material, and the products will be sold in support of Friends.

- We want to celebrate Snoopy in a way that genuinely represents him and his creator's character, says Camilla Olin, Brand Manager for Snoopy at Plus Licens. "The installation at Nordic Light Hotel is completely in line with how we would like to honour Charles Schulz' lifework. The co-operation with Friends is a reminder that Snoopy is a series about friendship, conflicts, and kinship among children.”
